How would you describe an experience of Manila to a person who's never been here?
Something that speaks of the uniqueness of the city's people, unspoken rules, good or nasty habits, food, streets, sub cultures.... and so on.
And we don't mean to use adjectives like "hot", "humid", "traffic jams galore", "seedy", "posh", etc. - but tangible experiences, things you can hear, see, feel, taste, and smell in Manila.
Share your own experience of the city and spread the love.
We're collecting some contributions before we get the site up and running, and hopefully we can launch the site with an event! So if you or a friend has a story to tell, a photo, bizarre recipe, video or whatever, we'd love to hear from you. sense.manila@gmail.com
Examples of cool things contributors can share:
- Overheard conversations (similar to those found on www.overheardinnewyork.com)
- Photos of funny signs and peculiar taxi cab and jeepney names
- Candid photos of people doing funny things, or awkward situations
- A correspondence scrawled on a public bathroom cubicle
- A recount of a thrill ride in Cubao's Fiesta Carnival
- A recipe for gut-busting fishballs
- A crumpled love letter found in a random karenderia
- A video clip of a rondalla band doing a song and dance rendition of "Johnny B. Goode"
- Creative interpretations of smells of the city
- Other things that are quirky, offbeat, and most importantly - uniquely Pinoy.
Hopefully these contributions aren't already part of a published book (there is supposedly one with photos of hilarious shop signs like the "Conan the Barber" or "Elizabeth Tailoring"), or something clipped from a newspaper or magazine. There's so much out there that still needs to be appreciated by a wider audience - be it an account from someone's personal journal, or a personal collection - we want to hear from you!
